ABOUT ABBY

ABBY MARCHESSEAULT HEADSHOT 1_edited.jpg

A “constructivist artist,” Abby is a freelance choreographer, performer, and teacher whose work centers around questions of human relationship -- to ourselves, one another, nature, society, history, and the divine.

Fond of collaborations, Abby enjoys working with visual artists, sculptors, musicians, filmmakers, photographers, actors -- artists of all stripes! Some of these collaborative and solo works have been presented in New York, Chicago, Dallas, and Detroit, as well as internationally in London, Sydney, and Ubud (Indonesia). She has been commissioned by various galleries, museums, schools, and professional dance companies to create works, and enjoys tapping into site-specificity in making them.

Abby's academic interests lie at the intersection of dance and religion. She has been a speaker at the Conference on Catholicism, Literature and Arts, at the University of Notre Dame, and the Church Life Africa Conference.

Trained in classical ballet and modern dance styles, Abby has danced with the Connecticut Ballet and many NYC-based contemporary companies. Other credits include appearances in the Bessie Award-winning revival, “From the Horse’s Mouth,” in Julian Fellowes' The Chaperone, and serving as dance consultant for the Bach Cello Suites Festival at Carnegie Hall. She holds a BFA in Dance Performance from Southern Methodist University, where she was awarded Outstanding Achievement in Dance in 2015.
